What is Application Lambda Switching?

Application Lambda Switching is the next generation of optical communications technology. It is an infrastructure for transport of any type of information, analog or digital, regardless of origination source. This technology has many benefits:

  1. Unlimited bandwidth per connection:  
    Network infrastructure no longer dictates the connection speed of access devices.

  2. Total elimination of traffic congestion:
    Network traffic is completely isolated to its associated connection, with no effect on other connections whatsoever. Quality of Service (QoS) is no longer an issue. 

  3. Elimination of network overhead:  
    No need for transport protocols such as ATM, IP, SONET, etc. 
  4. Information neutral: 
    Can optically transport analog or digital information in any form, from any source. 

  5. 100% secure, and dedicated connections:
    This technology inherently provides security and privacy without additional costly infrastructure. 

  6. Future backwards compatibility for all AlS access devices:
    It is unlikely that A    lS access devices will require upgrades to remain useable as the rest of the network infrastructure technically progresses over time.

  7. 100% backwards compatible with all current and past optical transport technologies:  
    The benefits of this technology do not restrict its use with existing optical technologies such as ATM, SONET, WDM, etc. 

  8. Intelligent Addressing:  
    The A    lS infrastructure employs the ‘Colon Quinoctogesimal 1924 Intelligent Addressing’ system (patented). 

  9. Intelligent device addressing:  
    Network can locate any device regardless of its connectivity. 

  10. Simplified access devices:
    Access devices do not have to be as complex as they are today to perform the same functions.  Simplifies design lowers the cost of access devices. 

  11. Intelligent connectivity:
    Network infrastructure can track, map, and diagnose connectivity to any device in real-time without additional software, protocols, or infrastructure. 

  12. Intelligent built-in network management: 
    Network infrastructure itself can create, or re-create its entire infrastructure mapping starting from a single known device address without additional software, protocols, or infrastructure. 

  13. Unlimited connectivity:
     Any AlS access device can maintain multiple connections to multiple devices while maintaining a single MAC address.
